During our most recent Amsterdam trip, we got to try the Verdamper vaporizer for the first time at coffeeshop 1e hulp. It left a big impact, possibly a bigger impact than the Volcano vaporizer ever did. Which is considered by many, and by us, one of the best desktop vaporizers out there on the market. Both vaporizers are in the premium price range, so, will it live up to its expectations? Time to find out.
De Verdamper vaporizer was developed by Evert, an enthusiastic Dutch cannabis user, who was looking for a purer experience, without tobacco. In 1995 his experiments with a hot air paint stripper and a bong gave him the idea of the Verdamper, after he noticed that the effect of this combination was not only purer, but also that it produced an activating, rather than tiring effect. This vaporizer is the result of many adjustments and further developments. The combination of a heating element and a robust glass bong make for the ultimate vaporizer. It vaporizes the active substances in herbs at 200°C (392°F).
This luxury edition is available in two sizes: 38 cm (15″) and 45 cm (18″) (measured without the heating element).
We got to try the show model, used by Evert at cannabis exhibitions. Evert was kind enough to drive all the way to our office so we could have a go with his creation. This model has no temperature settings and has LED’s build in to the case containing the electronic transformer.
Our first session, with Evert present, was a 2 hour session during which we were introduced to the Verdamper vaporizer. I got incredibly high, the highest I’ve been in a long time.
Preparing the vaporizer for first time use
The first thing you do is filling up the vase half full with water and plug in the transformer (which in our case, is in the box). This will warm up the heating element which takes approximately 10 minutes.
During this time, you can grind up your herbs if you haven’t done that already, and fill up the bowl with ground up bud. The bowl goes on top of the glass pipe.
Using the Verdamper Vaporizer
When the heating element has been warmed up sufficiently, pick it up by its handle (the surrounding glass is hot, use a towel) and place it on top of the bowl. Inhale slowly (with love), until your lungs are almost full.
Keep it in 10 (women) or 20 (for men) seconds in your lungs after which you can exhale the vapor. Do it too fast and you’ll end up coughing your lungs out.
The effects should be noticeable not long after the first dosage and can last for quite a while.
Where the Verdamper vaporizer excels is in the social aspect. Unlike portable vaporizers that are often too complicated and desktop vaporizers that require refills during a session, this vaporizer lasts longer than every other vaporizer we’ve tried before. When you notice less vapor escaping your mouth, simply remove the heating element (care and stir the bowl a couple of times and after placing the heating element back, you’ll notice you can go for another session. This lasts for quite a while and will get you very high…
When the session is over, you don’t have to empty the bowl. Next time, just add some freshly ground bud up top and stir the bowl once more to proceed.
Make sure to clean your vaporizer regularly, which is very simple in this case. There are brushes included to ease up the cleaning process. All you need is some hot water and a little bit of regular dish soap. Because it’s glass, after every time you clean your Verdamper it will look like new!
- Very good vaporizer for social settings
- Easy to clean
- Easy on the throat
- Fun to use
- Student proof and if you do break something, all parts are replaceable
- Very efficient
- The first few times you might want to clear your schedule for a couple of hours…
- Price. It’s still a lot of money for many people.
With prices ranging from 279 euros for the basic model and over 400 for the premium models, there are very high expectations. But if you’re going to use it with your friends, room mates or fellow patients and they’re all able to chip in, the Verdamper vaporizer is certainly worth considering. If you’re worried about the durability: don’t be, it’s student proof. It’s improved multiple times since it’s introduction little over 10 years ago and if you do break something, all parts are replaceable. Vaporizing is also a lot more efficient than burning your herbs. In the long run, it’ll actually save you money.
