Dab-a-doo was created by Mila Jansen and her Polinator crew and has since grown from Amsterdam to editions in Barcelona, San Francisco, Boston, Valencia, Denver and even Uruguay.
As the name suggests, Dab-a-Doo is all about dabs: solvent (BHO, CO2 etc), solventless (ice-o-lator, dry sift etc) and with rising popularity: Rosin. Dab-a-Doo has since inspired many other events, including our own HomeGrown Cup and remains one of the most important hash extraction competitions, especially in Europe.
I was introduced to Mila at the last High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in 2014 and was able to attend my first Dab-a-Doo last year in Barcelona. From last year, I remember being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of high quality hash extractions around. Luckily, thanks to that experience I knew what to expect for this year’s edition and was much better prepared.
So how does Dab-a-Doo work?
Companies, organisations and individuals are able to to compete in the various categories, resulting in this year’s whopping 35 different entries.
The entries, labeled with numbers and letters, are judged on appearance, smell, taste and effect from 5 pm until around 10 pm after which the winners are announced.
Everyone who is attending is a judge, with rigs and dabstations (like e-nails) available on site.

The Dab-a-Doo Experience
Whereas most people attending dab-a-doo at the beautiful NPK club were of Spanish nationality (of course), a quick look around proved the international cannabis culture is able to find their way, including cannabis celebrities like Bubbleman, Tony Verzura, Jorge Cervantes and the crews from Marimberos (who won our HomeGrown Cup indoor category), DNA Genetics and House of the Great Gardener for example.
Our crew got in around 7, having just arrived after a short flight to the city of Barcelona and we managed to huddle up around one of the tables. The place was packed, with with attendance numbers close to 300 judges and VIPs.
A beautiful sight to see was when food came around that time and those dabbing away on their sugar levels, hurried to the table to fulfill their munchies.
I also stumbled upon familiar friendly faces, like the 710 crew, who invited us over to try their entry on the e-nail. Dabbed out on their remarkably smooth 24k Cannatonic L.R, I ventured further onto the site, which was half out in the open. Here we also found the Smoking Gear Functional Flame Off underway. A spectacular sight to see live glass blowing in action!

After the raffle (every goodie bag contained a number), the celebratory ceremonies could kick off around 10.30, as Mila and Jorge Cervantes handed out the Dab-a-Doo plaques.
