The FireFly 2 is a premium portable vaporizer now available for those connoisseurs who want to take their vaporizing level one step higher.
Reading back our review of the first FireFly iteration, it was generally well received. But there were a few cons, for example the weight, herbs only and the price.
To find out whether or not the FireFly 2 does better in these areas, we charged up the original FireFly and compared the two. First, we take a look inside the beautiful box.
Inside the FireFly 2 box
- Firefly 2 vaporizer
- Cleaning kit
- Concentrate pads
- Extra battery
- USB Cable
- Charging dock
Replaceable batteries profoundly increase the life of your vaporizer. In this case, an extra battery is already supplied for your convenience. A superb move if you ask me.

Comparing the FireFly 2 with the original, we find the FireFly 2 is 33% smaller and 55% lighter. Dabbing functionality through the concentrate pads has also been added, as well as Bluetooth. Through the FireFly2 app, this allows for temperature control by using your smartphone as a remote. The app isn’t required and the FireFly 2 works well without. Though we do recommend borrowing a friends’ phone if you want to use concentrates, for the concentrate setting. Don’t forget to switch it back however.
Preparing the FireFly 2 for the first time
The FireFly 2 comes with a charging dock and heavy duty mini USB cable. You plug in the USB cable and can plug in the other end in your computer or wall charger. A wall charger is not supplied.
The charging dock functions and looks well. A charging Firefly 2 would very much fit perfectly between your Sci-Fi miniature ships collection…

Other than the information provided on the cover inside the box, there is no manual supplied. Instead, you can view and download a PDF on the FireFly website.
After placing the FireFly 2 on the charging dock, the LED light will start flickering blue. When the battery is fully charged, the LED light will turn solid. Charging the FireFly 2 takes approximately 45 minutes (or less) through a 9 Watts (or higher) wall adapter. Charging through a USB port will extend the charging period.
When the FireFly2 is fully charged, you can take of the magnetic top lid and place some ground up herbs in the chamber. You can fill up the chamber slightly over the edge, after which you tap down softly on the herbs to make sure it’s good to go.
Using the FireFly 2 vaporizer
It only takes a few seconds until it’s heated up, improving much upon the original
By holding down both touch sensors, the FireFly 2’s LED light will start flickering green. When it’s solid green, you can start taking your hit. It only takes a few seconds until it’s heated up, improving much upon the original. Depending on how long you inhale (recommend is around 10 seconds) and how fast you pull, your hits will obviously become bigger.
You will start to feel an itch in the back of your throat when you’ve inhaled enough.
Hits are smooth and the effect in combination with the taste is marvelous. What makes the FireFly stand out between the competition is that you are heating your herbs past all cannabinoid releasing temperatures. Each time you (quickly) heat up!
After about 5 draws, it is recommend to stir the bowl and you can continue enjoying your herbs.
Whereas the original FireFly didn’t have a concentrate option, concentrate functionality has been added to the FireFly 2 relatively simple. But it works perfectly. Simply place a drop of concentrate on one of the supplied concentrate pads, turn the FireFly 2 heat source up to concentrate setting with the application and you’re ready to go.
The concentrate pads increase the contact surface area and thus allow for smooth hits. Heat up time is slightly longer with concentrates compared to herbs though.
In the cleaning kit you’ll find a brush, two stirring picks and two 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes. If you run out, dipping a cloth in cleaning alcohol will do the trick too.
- Looks better the original
- Smaller than the original
- Much lighter
- Replaceable battery
- Extra battery
- Concentrate option
- Quicker heat up time
- Proper refilling on the go (or at festivals) requires practice
- Price is even higher than the original
- App doesn’t work on all versions of Android (yet)
Considering it’s faster, lighter, smaller and simply better than the original, this could just be exactly what you’re looking for in a portable vaporizer
If the hefty price tag of $329.95 doesn’t put you off (or €369,00 at VapoShop.com), we can get serious. It’s much smaller than it’s only competitors, the Crafty and Mighty. And thus much more discrete, as well as better looking.
Other than blue, there are 4 more available colours. For some this might not seem important, but after we’ve established a vaporizer works, things other than functionality come in to play.
Considering it’s faster, lighter, smaller and simply better than the original, this could just be exactly what you’re looking for in a portable vaporizer.
