On Cannabis Liberation Day we celebrate the international cannabis culture and show how much good this plant has to offer. With Cannabis Liberation Day, VOC Nederland (Union for the abolition of cannabis prohibition, Dutch NGO) calls for tolerance and widespread use of hemp as durable resource and challenges the criminalization of the plant, the cannabis consumers, coffeeshops and cultivators. Flevopark is Amsterdam greenest park with camping Zeeburg, the city’s most popular campside, in walking distance.

In addition to the podium line-up, there will be a large Hemp market, Cannabis Film Festival, debates and theater performances. Also on the program: presentation of the Highlife Cannabis Cup and the Koos Zwart Award presented by the Dutch coffeeshop union PCN. New this year: the arrival of the Medical Cannabis Bike Tour 2015 and the Dutch Passion Chill Out.

On the mainstage perform between 2 PM and 10 PM artists, DJ’s and speakers from the Netherlands and abroad. The line-up includes Natty (UK), Einstein Barbie (Amsterdam), De Rupelsoldaten (Belgium), Knight Susan (Groningen) and Isabelle Amé (Tilburg). Speakers this year include the Canadian couple Marc and Jodie Emery, the ‘Prince & Princess of Pot’, the American ‘Guru of Ganja’ Ed Rosenthal and our very own Doede de Jong. The Dj’s for this seventh edition: Dj Skunkstar (Austria) and Dj Dr Tompson (UK). Prolonged due to success: Covenant Sound System (Den Bosch), this year with their own reggae & dub area.

Cannabis Liberation Day aims to reach a broad audience. Not just cannabis consumers, but everyone who is interested in cannabis as a medicine, a raw material or alternative for alcohol. The first six editions drew a varied mix of festival lovers, stoners, families, old and young people.

This year we are expecting visitors from all over Europe. This weekend a VOC Nederland team will visit Spannabis in Barcelona, Europe’s biggest cannabis fair, to spread flyers and posters.

Alcohol will not be sold at Cannabis Liberation Day; small amounts for personal use are tolerated.
