Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL, refused to give a straight yes or no answer when ask about medicinal marijuana use for the players. He said quote “I don’t know what’s going to develop as far as the next opportunity for medicine to evolve and to help either deal with pain or help deal with injuries, but we will continue to support the evolution of medicine,” according to ESPN.com.
However, the strict policy of substance abuse is still in effect and the recreational use of smoking cannabis is still forbidden amongst the players. Players in Seattle and Denver have already been warned by the NFL to not step outside the boundaries that the NFL has in place, and have been abiding by for decades, since these two states have legalized recreational use, but the same set of rules still is the standard for all NFL players and staff.
All I have to say, is getting sidelined for a concussion might not be as bad as in the past. Instead of playing, some players might be able to get high and watch the games until medically cleared.
