Dutch Automatic by Spliff Seeds originates from a 4-way cross between Ruderalis, Northern Light, Santa Maria and Afghani Gold.

Dutch Automatic is made up of Northern Light, Ruderalis, Santa Maria, Hawaiian Sativa and Afghani Gold genetics. She is a 55% Indica plant and has a decent THC level of around 10 to 15% and a high level of CBD. Dutch Automatic is a short, compact plant since she has no growing period. She is quite leafy however. Preferably keep her on a 18/6 light cycle. She will start to show the first pistils after only about 2.5 weeks. Leaves and buds have distinctive light green color. Although there is one out of two known phenos that will tend to be slightly darker. Size makes her suitable for SOG.

She is a stable strain and produces heavier, more compact buds than her predecessors. The buds have a fruity, floral and skunky smell. She is an extremely smooth smoke with a couchlock body stoned high. Medicinal value: ADHD, Crohn’s, anxiety and panic attacks.

With bad weather incoming, we again had to move the plants inside. They’ve been outside most of the time, while the weather hasn’t been that good lately and we’ve seen more rain than sun.

However, they’ve been doing good. Especially the plant on the right, while the one on the left suffered from a heavy storm and we’ll have to wait and see if it she’ll make it. Let’s hope for the best!

20140819_192603Next week, part 8!

The Ganzfeld effect can cause hallucinations and other strange sensations just by messing with your perception. I want to amplify it!

This page will be an ongoing project.  As I build new devices and test different variables, I will compile my data and notes of the study sessions here.

From Wikipedia:
The ganzfeld effect (from German for “complete field”) or perceptual deprivation, is a phenomenon of perception caused by exposure to an unstructured, uniform stimulation field.

I’ve been fortunate to find that others are also conducting their own research into the Ganzfeld effect, as you can see in the video above.

The Modified Ganzfeld Effect

Consciousness itself is an incredibly fascinating topic, one that through closer personal examination will unravel your understanding of reality.  There are many methods for exploring consciousness and each has its own unique value.  Drugs, meditation, exercise, music, and sensory deprivation are just a few examples of consciousness altering catalysts.  While the Ganzfeld effect is usually associated with sensory deprivation, I plan to orient my ‘Modified Ganzfeld Effect’ study towards sensory saturation.

Observation:

Two of the most profound effects I’ve felt from my near death experiences were the slowing of time and a feeling of detachment from my physical body.

I’ve noticed while practicing meditation and attempting OBE’s that it’s VERY difficult to silence your mind and focus on nothingness.  Consciously trying to think nothing can be more distracting than just thinking basic thoughts.  I sometimes try counting or focusing on a single word or idea but I find my mind eventually wandering or I realize I’ve fallen asleep.  I have had some weird sensations and sensory anomalies while practicing these mind focusing techniques but I’ve also had similarly powerful experiences with sensory saturation.

Unlike calming techniques which may take extended durations of time to induce, sensory saturation effects can happen near instantaneously.  Many people, including myself have had perceived near death experiences.  During these situations, our brains react by treating every iota of stimuli as if it was critically important.  This flood of sensory input nears our perceptual capacity which can cause some strange effects on the psyche.  Two of the most profound effects I’ve felt from my near death experiences were the slowing of time and a feeling of detachment from my physical body.  With my first-hand knowledge of sensory saturation and its effects, I’ve grown far to curious to not poke it with a stick.

kaleidoscopeimage

Questions:

  • Does sensory saturation produce similar effects to sensory deprivation?
  • If saturation does produce similar effects, do they happen quicker or slower than deprivation?
  • Are the biological processes and effects the same between deprivation and saturation?

Materials:

I have not completed construction of everything I need to conduct this study but I should have it completed in due time.  My modified Ganzfeld study will consist of a few different sound files to include:

I will also use audio deprivation and try different sounds to each ear to increase the intensity of sensory saturation.
I will have a few visual variables as well.  The main visual device will be a homemade tri-kaleidoscope projector.  Similar to audio, I will create some variables such as covering one eye, seeing different images in each eye, etc.

Hypothesis:

  • Sensory saturation will have a similar but more intense effect than sensory deprivation.
  • Altered state onset will come quicker with saturation than it would with deprivation.
  • The effects of saturation and deprivation will feel similar but could have substantial differences.

Procedures:

I will probably run each study session for an hour unless the stimuli causes negative effects.  I haven’t created a master list yet but I will try to conduct at least one experiment with each variable on the template below.

MGEtest

Results: [TBD]

Conclusion: [TBD]

This may not be an entirely formal scientific study but since I practice things like meditation already, I thought “why not examine it a little closer”.  If you’re interested in helping me compile results please try these tests out on your own and tell me about it!  When I finish the tri-kaleidoscope projector I’ll post a video of it.

I look forward to your correspondence!

Released earlier this year by Sony Pictures, Jodorowsky's Dune is a documentary that goes behind the scenes on the craziest Dune adaptation that never was.

Directed by Frank Pavich, the film tells the story of Chilean-French director Alejandro Jodorowsky, who spent most of his time in the 1970s trying to adapt Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel to a movie.

I wanted to make something sacred. A film that gives LSD hallucinations without taking LSD

Would Dune have been released, it would have changed science fiction and cinema forever. Instead of Star Wars and Ridley Scott’s Alien, there may have just been Dune: a movie nobody has ever seen.

The film would’ve starred Jodorowsky’s 12-year-old son as part of a cast that included Orson Welles, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, and Salvador Dali, as the mad emperor of the galaxy. Jodorowsky also approached Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel about scoring the film, and wanted H.R. Giger and Jean Giraud to work on the set design. The director’s ambitions were grand, despite the fact that he hadn’t even read Dune.

In the trailer, Jodorowsky explains: “I wanted to make something sacred. A film that gives LSD hallucinations without taking LSD.”

I did not want LSD to be taken, I wanted to fabricate the drug’s effects

Alejandro Jodorowsky is the avant-garde filmmaker behind cult classics like El Topo and The Holy Mountain, and in 1975 he began work on a surrealistic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. His vision was trippy and fantastic — “I did not want LSD to be taken, I wanted to fabricate the drug’s effects,” Jodorowsky says. To bring it to life, he assembled a legendary creative team, including artists Jean “Moebius” Giraud and H.R. Giger, with future Alien writer Dan O’Bannon handling visual effects. Jodorowsky convinced everyone from Salvador Dalí to Orson Welles to star in his epic. Then the filmmaker assembled a series of books containing every storyboard, ship design, and piece of art — and sent them off to the major studios to help get funding.

The movie never received the last 15 million of funding it needed to be completed, but Jodorowsky’s Dune makes the case that the film changed the world anyway: its influence popping up in everything from Star Wars to Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Magic Flight is back with the Muad Dib: a concentrate only vaporizer launch box!

Magic Flight Muad Dib Review

The original Magic Flight Launch Box I reviewed two years ago, was a brilliantly designed, simple,  little vaporizer that was able to capture the heart of many cannabis enthusiasts.

This “second generation” Magic Flight we have here, courtesy of vaposhop.com (the exclusive partner/retailer from Magic-Flight in Europe),  is the Muad Dib (pronounced “maw-deeb”): a concentrate only, one hit portable vaporizer.

IMG_20140813_154829

A tiny, pin head sized dab is all you need for a long single hit. The Muad Dib uses the same simple patented technology as the Launch Box, but with a reimagined screen design that reaches 900°F (482°C) in just three seconds. The Concentrate Box uses the same batteries as the Launch Box, but drastically improves on battery life, allowing you to take 50+ dabs on a single charge. The new lid features a brushed brass face, four snick locks and an optical grade glass lens, design inspired by the original Dune movie art some of you might remember (if not, look it up!).

IMG_20140731_105600Due to the high heat produced by this Box, a 1.5 ft draw whip is included in place of a draw stem to help cool the vapor stream.

Inside the box:

  • Muad-Dib Concentrate Box
  • Two Glyph Batteries and protective caps
  • 1.5 ft Draw Whip
  • Battery Charger
  • Instruction Guide
  • Magic-Flight Felt Lined Tin

Preparing the vaporizer for first time use

Both batteries can be charged with the included battery charger and take approximately 4 hours to fully charge, which I can recommend doing at night while you’re sleeping.

You only need a very small amount of concentrate, about the size of the stainless steel ball bearing that holds the locked lid in place. The concentrate is placed in the center of the screen, which requires some carefulness. The screen is extremely fragile, so refrain from pressing or packing your concentrate.

A tiny, pin head sized dab is all you need

Close the lid and insert the draw whip into the draw hole, after which you can insert a fully charged AA battery nipple end first in the battery hole.

Using the Muad Dib

Before you make contact with the battery, start inhaling and after a second or two engage the battery. Drawing at a normal pace, you’ll see vapor appearing. Too much vapor? Draw faster. Don’t see any vapor? Try drawing slower.

It is important to note this is a one hit vaporizer, which means that when you begin drawing, you don’t stop and don’t disengage the battery until you’ve completed your hit.

After 2-3 seconds after you engage the battery, you’ll see vapor and you are to continue drawing until no more visible vapor is produced. All vapor should be captured in one breath, if not, you probably loaded too much.

Towards the end of your draw, you might see the concentrate lighting up after which it fades away. That’s when you can stop inhaling and won’t see any vapor produced.

Using too much concentrate, combined with fast drawing can result in the concentrate being inhaled through the whip. A not so very enjoyable experience that’ll only happen to inexperienced users about once, which burns your mouth and will make you remember to use less product next time. It’s one of the few downsides of the Muad Dib I found out by accident while showing it to a friend.

Cleaning the Muad Dib

Cleaning the Muad Dib is pretty easy. After each completed draw, you should perform a so-called burn off by engaging the battery with the lid open, until no more visible vapor is produced for about 10-30 seconds. After the burn off is completed, you can use the included brush to clean out leftover residu and pack up, or ready another hit!

Pros:

  • Pleasant high
  • Durability (lifetime warranty)
  • Excellent battery
  • Efficiency

Cons:

  • Difficult to hide and use in public
  • Have to be careful not to use too much concentrate
  • Concentrate only

Conclusion:

Compared to the original Magic Flight Launch Box, I do see myself using the Maud Dib for a long time after this review is finished.  The concentrate process requires less battery power and battery life has thus improved coming from the original which was one of the downsides.

The Muad Dib makes people turn their heads, which might not make it the ideal vaporizer to use in public. But then you do get a unique vaporizer that’s really fun to use and enables you to very efficiently consume concentrates, oils or hash in one quick hit.

Europeans can order their Muad Dib for € 125,00 at vaposhop.com. North Americans can buy the Muad Dib at the Magic Flight store for $169.

August 12, 2014 (57 days in)

The long, hot summer days have turned into still relatively warm, rainy days with a lot of rain. Both plants spent pretty much all the time outside, enduring storms that are passing over our country.

The plant on the right in the yellow pot is going a lot faster and is flowering pretty. A close-up of the top flower has been included below.

Colorado’s recreational marijuana revenue hit a new record in June, totaling $24.7 million.

Colorado recreational marijuana sales marked an increase of 19 percent from May, according to tax figures released by the Colorado Department of Revenue.

Related stories:

The first six months of 2014, Colorado recreational marijuana sales totaled $115 million, translating into $20 million dollars in taxes.

Colorado recreational marijuana sales combined with medical marijuana sales totaled $308 million in the first six months after recreational marijuana sales began.

Medical marijuana revenue continues to outpace recreational purchases, partly because there are only around 120 recreational marijuana dispensaries in the state, compared to about 500 medical marijuana dispensaries, but also because of the high taxes. Many Coloradans hold on to their medical marijuana card, because it’s simply cheaper.

In related news, the State of Washington reported after less than a month since recreational marijuana stores opened in the state, producers, processors and marijuana retails have generated more than $2.4 million in sales.

The figures of the Colorado Department of Revenue have been embedded below.
