Da Vinci Ascent Vaporizer Review
A couple of weeks ago we received the Da Vinci Ascent vaporizer courtesy of Azarius.net for a review. Ever since I’ve been using the Ascent, trying out various techniques and figuring out how to make optimal use of the new portable vaporizer by Da Vinci.
The Ascent Vaporizer arrived in a beautiful little square box, in the same “Da Vinci” style as their brand, and contained the following:
Inside the box
- 1 Ascent Vaporizer
- 2 Glass Mouthpiece Stems
- 2 Glass Internal Stems
- 2 Glass Oil Jars
- 1 110-240v Wall Charger
- 1 Carrying Satchel
Preparing the vaporizer for first time use
For optimal usage, it is recommended to give the Ascent Vaporizer an initial 10 hour charge and subsequently a 5 hour charge. To charge, plug the wall charger into the port on the lower half of the unit. Which is quite a long time, but is only necessary for the initial charge.
Afterwards, I’ve found it only takes a few hours to achieve a full battery again and it will last you a full day of vaping.
Using the Ascent vaporizer
To use the Ascent vaporizer, simply expose the heating chamber by swiveling the lower half of the vaporizer open. Here you fill your dry marijuana or place a filled oil jar in the chamber. We’ve only been able to try the Ascent vaporizer with dry herb and found out that when you’re using dry herb like me, you should use the screen included in the box to cover the holes in the bowl by pressing it down with one of the steel picks.
Then, if you’re only using a little bit of marijuana at a time, put the ground up weed at the bottom and put one of the oil glass jars on top of it, without the lid. Or fill it up completely and pack it tightly.
Now you can power on the device by pressing the main power button located next to the mouthpiece. Use the temperature (+) / (-) buttom to set the desired vaporizer temperature. Now you wait for the vaporizer to reach the selected temperature, indicated by a heat bowl appearing on the OLED display after which you can can start vaping either via the retractable glass mouthpiece or natively using the wide mouth rim.
This way I was able to take two dense hits at 200 degrees Celsius (392 degrees Fahrenheit), turning it off afterwards after which I was able to take 2 more hits. Instead of using one of the glass jars as a spacer, you can use beads instead too. For best usage, take long slow draws.
Cleaning the Ascent vaporizer:
Simply remove the internal glass piece and the glass mouthpiece. Soak in your favorite cleansing solution or isopropyl alcohol. Rinse with water to protect pure flavor. Clean the bowl with a cotton swab.
- Pleasant, quick high that lasts
- Portable, with excellent battery life
- Build quality
- Works with dry herb and liquids
- Easy to use
I believe my search is over. Finally, a portable vaporizer with excellent battery life that can vaporize dry herb has made it’s way into my hands. And unless you live in Colorado, Washington or one of the medical marijuana marijuana states and are able to get your hands on oils, this will be what most cannabis enthusiasts will be looking for once they are transitioning from the traditional smoking to vaping.
Being able to use dry marijuana herb, this is a much healthier alternative to smoking, is (much) more efficient and I’ve found the high to be more pleasant too. Compared to other portable vaporizers on the market we’ve tried, I’ve found none to come close to the glass-on-glass experience from the Ascent vaporizer. They either lacked the battery life or the ability to properly produce vapor and the Ascent vaporizer has both. I’ve also found the learning curve to be relatively easy, making the Ascent vaporizer easily shareable.
The only reason the review score didn’t end up higher is because of the price, €229,00 for Europeans and $249.99 in North America is quite an investment.
