AMSTERDAM – For the ninth consecutive year the VOC (Union for the Abolition of Cannabis Prohibition) presents Cannabis Liberation Day, Holland’s biggest cannabis event, in Amsterdam’s beautiful Flevopark. This year’s program includes speakers from Spain, Canada, the USA and France. The date is Sunday June 11.

Since 2009 Cannabis Liberation Day has steadily grown to become the biggest and best known Dutch cannabis and hemp event, with visitors and media attention far beyond our borders. The formula: a free, family friendly protestival at a beautiful, green venue, with lots of information and entertainment and a careful balance between activism and commerce.

“On Cannabis Liberation Day, we celebrate the international cannabis culture and show how much good this plant has to offer”

“On Cannabis Liberation Day, we celebrate the international cannabis culture and show how much good this plant has to offer,” says VOC chairman Derrick Bergman. “We advocate for the legalization of cannabis and widespread use of hemp as a renewable raw material. And we protest the respectless and useless ban on the plant.”

The main stage, with artists, DJs and speakers from home and abroad, is the heart of the festival. The Hemp Market boasts over sixty companies and organizations in the field of cannabis and hemp. Visitors can see and buy innovations like portable vaporizers and vape pens, equipment for ‘dabbing’, various oils and other products containing cannabidiol (CBD), hemp based clothing, cosmetics and food. Main Sponsor Amsterdam Genetics provides a Vape Lounge on the field, where adult visitors can vaporize cannabis. A diverse range of small catering companies and food trucks will make sure any type of munchies will be satisfied. Sale of alcohol is prohibited, but possession of small amounts for personal use is tolerated.

A new feature is the Cannabis University, a large tent with a full program of master classes, panel discussions and demonstrations about cannabis, featuring renowned speakers and experts, in collaboration with Cannabis News Network. Coffeeshop union PCN will present their Koos Zwart Award to someone who has made an exceptional contribution in the fight for normalization and legalization of cannabis. The awards ceremonies for the Highlife Cannabis Cup, the oldest Dutch competition for cannabis and hash, will take place in the VIP Lounge backstage. In the early evening, the VOC will hand out thousands of free cannabis seeds to the audience, to commemorate cannabis activist Joep Oomen, who died last year.

Entrance to Cannabis Liberation Day is free and all ages and nationalities are welcome. The event starts at 14:00 and ends at 22:00. Venue: Flevopark, Amsterdam, entrance Valentijnkade. More information (like full program) on the Cannabis Liberation Day website.
