The XMAX Starry is a portable vaporizer, reminiscent of the Storm vaporizer we reviewed earlier. The Starry is sleeker and smaller, while it’s about the same price as the Storm when it was introduced. But in addition to the ceramic mouthpiece, it goes further by including an OLED Display to show precise temperature measurement and an automatic shutdown countdown.
Our XMAX Starry review unit also included a universal Glass Water Tip Adapter, that we delve into later.
First, we take a look what’s inside the box.

Preparing the XMAX Starry for first time use
Charging the Starry works with the supplied USB cable and will take approximately 6 hours. Charging for the first time, it’s recommended to use a wall adapter (not supplied) you have laying around, or charge the battery separately if you already have a Samsung 18650 battery charging station.
Don’t pack it too tight: airflow still needs to happen
Considering it’s a widely available battery, you might already own some and as such will have a separate battery available.
Removing the magnetic lid reveals the chamber.
It’s rather small, so don’t pack it too tight: airflow still needs to happen through the holes in the side of the vaporizer.
Using the XMAX Starry with herbs
When you’re charged up and the chamber is filled up with your favorite herbs, the fun is about to start.
Holding the power button will turn on the XMAX Starry. If you rather have Celcius than Fahrenheit, you can switch between both settings by holding down the power button and the “-” button for 2 seconds.
I found out the way to go for herbs is actually 210 degrees Celcius
I prefer to heat my herbs at 180 or 190 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit), however, the Starry will serve you little to no clouds of vapor. After playing around with the temperature settings for a while, I found out the way to go for herbs is actually 210 degrees Celcius (410 degrees Fahrenheit). It reaches this temperature relatively quick.
After 10-15 puffs, the taste of your herbs will be pretty much gone. You can opt for stirring the chamber to give it one more session, or collect the Already Vaped Bud (AVB) for other uses.
After 5 minutes, the XMAX Starry turns off automatically. You can change this to 10 minutes also, but it’s not likely you’ll continuously use the Starry this long on one chamber.
Using the XMAX Starry with concentrates
The Starry also comes with a so-called Waxy Cup you may have seen if you bought a herbal vaporizer before. It’s a simple but effective way to vaporize concentrated cannabis (or dabs).
A simple but effective way to vaporize concentrated cannabis (or dabs)
Just slip a piece of concentrate the size of a dab in the Waxy Cup, place the cup in the chamber and close the magnetic lid.
After turning on the vaporizer, ramp up the temperature to it’s maximum of 240 degrees Celcius (464 degrees Fahrenheit).
How many puffs you can take depends on how much you fill the cup, but don’t overfill it and keep the vaporizer vertical.
Using the XMAX Starry with the Glass Water Tip Adapter
Our XMAX Starry review unit came with a so-called Glass Water Tip Adapter and consists of a couple different pieces. There’s a bubbler, bong adapter and silicone tube which connects the ceramic mouthpiece to the (water) bubbler or your own bong (with or without the bong adapter).
We tried it on a little dabrig and it worked better than expected
We tried it on a little dabrig and it worked better than expected.
It’s not the most elegant way, but considering how much the Starry manages to delivers at this price point, it’s worth considering to add to your purchase.
- Removable battery
- Quick heat up time
- Magnetic lid
- 210 degrees seems like a bit steep to start working (prefer vaping at 180)
- Ceramic mouthpiece can get pretty hot after long use
- Small vaporizer means small chamber…
Depending on where you pick up the XMAX Starry, you’ll have a relatively cheap herbs and concentrates vaporizer that manages to do just about anything for that price. The removable battery is a big plus and ensures an extra long product lifetime. Picking up a second battery (if you didn’t have one already), will make sure you can continue to vape even when the first battery ran out.
Currently the XMAX Starry is on sale at our friends from Azarius.net for €99,00 from €120,00.
